Using suPlay Poll with Keynote

Keynote doesn’t support browser add-ins, but you can still run fully interactive live polls alongside your Keynote presentation. Here are three proven approaches.

Method 1: Dual-screen presenter setup (recommended)

This is the most seamless approach. You present your Keynote slides on the projector while controlling suPlay Poll from your laptop screen.

  1. Create your event in suPlay Poll and add your poll questions.
  2. Connect a second display (projector or external monitor) to your Mac.
  3. Open Keynote on one screen and the suPlay Poll presenter view in Safari or Chrome on the other.
  4. Start your Keynote presentation. Keynote will show slides on the projector and presenter notes on your laptop.
  5. When you reach a poll moment, switch to suPlay Poll in your browser to activate the poll. Your audience sees the poll on the projector via the suPlay Poll display view, or on their own devices via the join link.
  6. After collecting responses, switch back to Keynote and continue your presentation.

Tip: Use Keynote’s Preferences > Slideshow > Allow Mission Control option so you can swipe between Keynote and your browser without exiting the slideshow.

Method 2: QR code slides in Keynote

If you prefer a single-screen setup, you can add QR code slides directly into your Keynote deck.

  1. Create your event in suPlay Poll and note the join link (e.g., poll.suplay.nl/join/ABCD).
  2. In suPlay Poll, go to your event and copy the QR code image from the “How to Connect” slide or generate one from the join URL.
  3. In Keynote, insert a new slide and paste the QR code image. Add a text box with the join URL so participants can also type it in.
  4. During your presentation, pause on the QR slide so your audience can scan and join. Then switch to suPlay Poll in your browser to manage the polls.

Method 3: Download poll slides as images

suPlay Poll can generate presentation-ready slide images for each of your polls. You can insert these directly into your Keynote deck.

  1. In the suPlay Poll event editor, open the slide download option for each poll.
  2. Download the slide images (1920×1080 PNG files, matching standard presentation dimensions).
  3. In Keynote, drag the images onto new slides. They will fill the slide area.
  4. During presentation, these slides remind your audience to open their devices. Activate the corresponding poll in your suPlay Poll browser window.

Tips for a smooth experience

  • Share the join link early. Display the QR code or join URL at the start of your session so participants are already connected when the first poll appears.
  • Use Keynote’s presenter display. It shows your current and next slide, giving you a visual cue for when to switch to suPlay Poll.
  • Hot corners or Stage Manager. On macOS, set up a hot corner or use Stage Manager to quickly switch between Keynote and your browser.
  • Test beforehand. Run through the flow with both Keynote and suPlay Poll open to make sure the screen switching feels natural.
