Using suPlay Poll with Google Slides

There are two ways to run live suPlay Poll questions in a Google Slides deck, and they do different jobs: the add-on puts poll slides into the deck itself (for building the deck), and the Chrome extension draws live results on top of your slides while you present (for the live moment). They work best together — but each also works on its own, so start with whichever you need first. Prefer to install nothing at all? The manual options further down still work.

Add-on, extension, or both?

The add-on builds the deck. It inserts poll slides — the question plus a join QR code — right into the file, so the deck carries its polls and anyone can present it (including in Safari, Firefox, or a locked-down browser).
The extension runs the live moment. It overlays the live results on the slide while you present, with nothing changed in the file — the overlay exists only on your screen.
Best together. Build the deck with the add-on, present it with the extension. Each also works on its own, so you can start with one and add the other when you need it.

The add-on — insert poll slides

Best for building and sharing the deck — the poll slides live in the file, so it works for whoever presents it, even without Chrome extensions.

The add-on is free and lives in the Google Workspace Marketplace. It adds a sidebar to Google Slides that inserts ready-made poll slides — the question plus a join QR code — and lets you run the live poll from your phone while you present.

Open the suPlay Poll for Google Slides™ listing on the Google Workspace Marketplace and click Install.
In any Google Slides deck, choose Extensions → suPlay Poll for Google Slides™ → Open suPlay Poll.
Sign in. Sign in with your Google account is the one-click route; take Use a different suPlay Poll account if your suPlay Poll login is not the Google account you are signed in with. A free account at poll.suplay.nl is all you need.

What’s in the sidebar. It stays open beside your deck while you build it:

Event and join code. Pick the event you prepared in suPlay Poll; its join code is shown at the top.
Run the session. Folded into 🖥️ Run the session without the Chrome extension (collapsed — click to open): 📱 Presenter view to activate, reveal and show results, the 🖥️ Display screen for the room, and a QR code that puts the presenter view on your phone as a remote — keep that QR off a shared screen, since anyone who scans it can control the poll.
Current slide. Tells you which poll the slide you are on carries, with Detach poll to unlink it again.
The event’s polls. Click one to attach it to the current slide; the add-on inserts the ready-made poll slide for you.

Show live results on the room screen (display link)

With the add-on, live results appear on the display screen rather than inside the slide — a full-screen page showing the live question, results, and answer reveal. In the sidebar, expand 🖥️ Run the session without the Chrome extension and click 🖥️ Display to open it. The link carries a secure token, so it works on any screen (a second monitor, the room’s projector machine) without signing in there. Put it on the shared screen when you want the audience to see results, and present your slides on the other.

The extension — live results overlay

Best for the live moment — you present from your own Chrome and want the results drawn on the slide, with your deck left untouched.

Published on the Chrome Web Store — reachable by direct link

The Chrome extension is published on the Chrome Web Store, but the listing is unlisted — it won’t turn up if you search or browse, so use the direct link below or the zip. It is also still under active development and changes more often than the add-on, so what follows is exactly what it does and doesn’t do today.

Google’s Present mode can’t live-update a slide on its own, so the extension draws the suPlay Poll widget as an overlay while you present. It runs entirely on your machine and never modifies your presentation.

Open the suPlay Poll for Google Slides™ listing on the Chrome Web Store and click Add to Chrome.
Click the suPlay Poll icon in the Chrome toolbar and choose Connect to suPlay Poll — the same free account you use at poll.suplay.nl.
In your deck, click the slide you want, then click the suPlay Poll icon and press Attach next to a poll. Your file isn’t changed — the link is stored in your suPlay Poll account.
Press Present. The live poll appears on that slide with the join QR, and you activate, reveal and close it from the controls on the overlay itself — no phone, no second window.

What the overlay’s controls do. The panel draws the question, the join QR code and the live results on the slide; the control strip on it runs the whole poll:

Run the poll. Open voting, close it again, and reveal the correct answer everywhere at once. A poll can also be set to open voting by itself when you reach its slide.
Choose what the room sees. Toggle the join QR code and the leaderboard, and show the results on the screen, on participants’ phones, or neither. Blackout takes the poll off every audience screen while your slide stays up.
Text polls, three ways. Switch an open-text, word-cloud or fill-in-the-blank poll between a plain list, a word cloud and an AI summary.
Fit it to the room. One Text size control scales the question for the audience, and a light or dark theme is a click away. While you are editing the deck you can also drag the panel to a better spot. You need no phone and no second window — but if you do use the phone remote or presenter view, everything stays in sync.

The overlay is presenter-side: it shows on your machine. If you mirror that screen (projector, Meet or Zoom share), the audience sees it too. Depending on your setup the overlay position may need a nudge.

Can’t reach the Chrome Web Store? Some managed browsers block it. Download the extension as a zip, unzip it, then open chrome://extensions, turn on Developer mode and click Load unpacked.

What works today

While you edit and while you present. The overlay is drawn in the normal editing view as well as in Present mode, and updates live as votes arrive.
Working on its own. The add-on is not required — sign in with a free suPlay Poll account and the extension can carry a whole session.
Nothing for your audience to install. They scan the join QR code and vote on their own phones.
Five interface languages — English, Dutch, German, French and Spanish.

What doesn’t work yet

You won’t find it by searching the store. The listing is unlisted, so it doesn’t appear in Chrome Web Store search or browse — the direct link and the zip are the ways in.
Chrome on a computer only. It needs Chrome or another Chromium browser such as Edge. There is no Firefox, Safari or mobile version.
It draws on your screen, not the room’s. The overlay is presenter-side, so your audience only sees it if you mirror or share that screen. For a second screen in the room, use the display link instead.
A screen that joins after a reveal misses the highlight. If you reveal the correct answer and only then open the overlay somewhere else, that screen shows the results without the highlight until the next reveal.
Sign-in is separate from the add-on. The same account works in both, but signing in to the Slides sidebar does not sign you in to the extension.
Managed browsers may block it. Some locked-down Chrome profiles don’t allow extensions at all — the add-on and the no-install routes below still work there.

No install at all

Can’t install anything, or would rather not? These manual workflows need neither the add-on nor the extension — you keep suPlay Poll in a second browser tab and treat your deck as ordinary slides.

Side-by-side on two screens

Present your Google Slides on the projector and control suPlay Poll from a second browser tab or window on your laptop.

Create your event in suPlay Poll and add your poll questions.
Open your Google Slides presentation in one browser tab and the suPlay Poll presenter view in another.
Click Present in Google Slides. It will go fullscreen on your projector or shared screen.
On your laptop, switch to the suPlay Poll tab. You can see and control your polls from there while the audience sees the slides.
When it’s time for a poll, activate it in suPlay Poll. Participants vote on their own devices. Optionally, show the suPlay Poll display view on the projector to reveal results.
Switch back to Google Slides to continue your presentation.

Tip: If you present via Google Meet or Zoom, you can switch which tab or window you share when transitioning between slides and polls.

Insert QR code images into slides

Add QR code images directly to your Google Slides so participants know when and how to join each poll.

Only needed without the add-on. It inserts a poll slide with the join QR for you — these manual steps are for decks built by hand.

In suPlay Poll, create your event and note the join link (e.g., poll.suplay.nl/join/ABCD).
Copy the QR code from the suPlay Poll “How to Connect” slide, or generate a QR code using any free QR generator with your join URL.
In Google Slides, go to Insert > Image > Upload from computer and add the QR code to a slide. Add a text box with the join URL as a fallback.
During your presentation, pause on the QR slide to let participants scan and join. Then manage the polls from your suPlay Poll browser tab.

Download poll slides as images

suPlay Poll generates downloadable slide images (1920×1080 PNG) for your polls. Insert these into your Google Slides deck so the audience sees a visual cue for each poll.

Only needed without the add-on. It inserts these slides for you — this section is for building a deck by hand.

In the suPlay Poll event editor, use the slide download option for each poll to get the PNG image.
In Google Slides, insert a blank slide and go to Insert > Image > Upload from computer. Select the downloaded image.
Resize the image to fill the entire slide. These images are designed to match standard 16:9 presentation dimensions.
During your presentation, when you reach a poll slide, switch to your suPlay Poll browser tab to activate the poll and show results.

Tips for a smooth experience

Share the join link early. Show the QR code or join URL at the beginning of your session so everyone is connected before the first poll.
Use speaker notes. In Google Slides, add a note like “Activate poll #3 now” to your speaker notes as a reminder to switch tabs.
Presenter view helps. Google Slides’ presenter view shows your notes and upcoming slides on your laptop, making it easy to know when to switch to suPlay Poll.
Virtual meetings. If presenting over Zoom or Google Meet, use the “share specific tab” feature. You can switch which tab is shared mid-presentation without stopping the share.
Test the flow. Before your live session, do a quick dry run switching between Google Slides and suPlay Poll to get comfortable with the workflow.
